What Does the Swim Safe Program Teach?

The Coalition offers four drowning prevention events every summer at locations across Fort Worth.  We leverage the expertise and resources of our members to provide both out-of-water drowning prevention education and in-water swimming and water-safety skills.  Out-of-water education includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Pool Safety Equipment
  • Safe-Monitoring Best Practices
  • Proper Use of Lifejackets
  • Responding to an Emergency
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Although we do not provide swim lessons, our in-water swimming and water-safety skills give participants exposure to and practice with some or all of the following, depending on age and comfort level:

  • Submersion
  • Swimming from Point A to B
  • “Falling in” and Swimming Back to the Wall
  • Floating

For less than $15 per participant, these invaluable classes and skills are accessible to anyone!  It also means we need your help to keep saving lives. Donate Here.

Ours is the only community coalition in the United States delivering this nonprofit model.  Coalition leaders serve on the board of the NDPA and present at the NDPA conventions to reach a national audience of like-minded individuals and organizations.  The Coalition’s volunteer training manual, which includes our curriculum, is now copyrighted and our social media reach extends far beyond Fort Worth.  As a flagship leader in drowning prevention, FWDPC provides a replicable model for others to use to save lives across the country and the world.
